FENNEC FOXES
|
The smallest species of fox, Fennec foxes are native to the Sahara desert in Africa. Adults average less than five pounds. Omnivorous, they feed on insects, small rodents and various desert plants. Their oversized ears radiate out excess heat, helping to keep them cool in the desert heat. The huge ears are also useful in locating their prey and avoiding predators. |

Pet fennecs enjoy mealworms, french fries, raisins and fresh vegetables. Lacking the musk glands of other foxes, they make good, if hyperactive pets. Their high-pitched yips make them sound like rubber squeak toys. Being noctural they are most active in the evening. They look like they were designed by Disney and act like they were animated by Warner Bros. Very cute!

So you think you might like a Fennec Fox of your own?
Before you go out and purchase a Fennec fox there a few things you should consider:
- Fennecs are almost impossible to litter box or paper train.
- Fennecs can and will dig under fences.
- Get a hand-raised Fennec that was taken from its parents and bottle-fed. Fennecs raised by their parents are not tame.
- Only domestically bred Fennecs are legal in the US.
- Check your local laws. Fennecs are not legal in all countries or in all states in the US.
